One of the perks of writing your own blog is being able to just occasionaly, take advantage of the space and of your friends to brag a bit. The last two days have been somewhat chaotic as my wife and I have finally experienced what is described as one of life’s greatest joys. We have become Grandparents for the very first time.
I look at it as welcoming this Duquesne Hunky’s 2nd generation into the world. I look forward to telling my little guy all about growing up in Duquesne and all the wonderful people, places and events associated with OUR hometown.
So, without further adieu, please let me introduce MY new grandson to all of my friends, and thank you for allowing me to share my joy with you!

Sadly Barry, poor little Jackson was born in Philly and will be raised in Eagles territory! Where have I failed!?!?!?!?!
Congratulations to both Grandpa & Grandma Volk from a remote Hunky! Barry
Congrats to you and your family! May Jackson be the first of many little blessings. I believe a “shot and a beer” may be in order! 🙂
Mnogo blagoslova, Djed! You’re blessed to have a beautiful grandson; may you both live long and be happy!
Jim, Congrats. Being a grandparent is one of the greatest gifts in the world [We have 6 and hope to see #7 around Christmas]. Always remember grandparent rule #1 – you have the right to spoil them as much as you want [actually I think it’s a duty??] and #2 – after playing with them and getting them all riled up, you may then give them back to the parents for bedtime. May you & your wife enjoy him as much as we have enjoyed and loved ours. May you have a wonderful life Jackson!!
What a little Angel!!!!!
Congrats to the lucky grandparents from a former McKeesporter transplanted to Mesa, AZ. George
Congrats Pap-pap / Dedecek / Dziadek / Djed / Ded. Not sure if I got the correct word for grandfather in there, but I tried. Best of everthing to you and your family. ENJOY!!!!!!!
Congratulations…..u have a beautiful grandson! We just had the experience of having our first little great niece 31/2 weeks ago! It’s a wonderful feeling to see the next generation join our family!
Being a grandparent is the best!!!
OMG — he’s absolutely beautiful. You must be sooooo proud. Please tell Megan and Andy they did good! And give the little guy a hug from his long distance cousins Paula and Ron.
Congrats on the little Hunky grandpa!
I’m Janet Luptak King from DHS class of 1969. Been following your blog for several months now; your posts about summer nights in Duquesne have taken me back to a sweeter time. Congratulations on your first grandchild. How wonderful that he will have your blog postings as a literal connection to his Duquesne roots.
In case you’ve never heard of it, there’s a children’s book titled No Star Nights (Ann Egan Smucker) about growing up in a mill town. Got a copy for my nephew 26 years ago when he was born. He’s getting married next month; when he starts his own family, his children will have that special connection to their father’s roots.
Congratulations…..he is beautiful.
Sharlene,
Are Lois and Bob Carr your parents? If so, I’m your cousin Debbie Carr Gavlik.
